Snakes Piping Now!! I just wanna make sure I know what to do next.

NickLucier Jul 10, 2003 11:07 AM

ok today through the tupperware container i see a little head! this is very exciting as it is my first time breeding snakes.

Ok

1. How long should I leave them in the incubator after they hatch? I've read leave them in there till the first shed, and I've read take them out as soon as they hatch.

2. I am pretty sure i read they all need to be seperated is this true?

3. Feed them as soon as the hatch or wait till they shed to feed them?

4. Can I look at them while their hatching or should i leave them be to all hatch alone.

Thank you for your help, and I can't wait till next season

I've never bred anything, so I can only tell you what I've heard others say.

>>1. How long should I leave them in the incubator after they hatch? I've read leave them in there till the first shed, and I've read take them out as soon as they hatch.

After they have made their way TOTALLY out of the egg on their OWN, you can then begin to separate them into their own cages.

>>2. I am pretty sure i read they all need to be seperated is this true?

Some people don't separate them, but I would so you don't have any cannabilism.

>>3. Feed them as soon as the hatch or wait till they shed to feed them?

Either way. I've heard some will feed right out of the egg, but others won't eat until they shed. Personally, I'd wait until their first shed.

>>4. Can I look at them while their hatching or should i leave them be to all hatch alone.

I'd leave them alone. Rich Z. has said a few times, that if you scare them while they are still in the process of leaving the egg, that sometimes they will make a run for it and end up with a hatchling with it's imbilicus still attached and if that happens, you might end up with a dead snake.
