Vicious Attack Turtle

StephF Jul 10, 2003 11:11 AM

Made the mistake of wearing sandals in the pen yesterday. Flora marched right on over, sniffed my toe, then CHOMP! When I backed away, she came after me...This continued til I stepped out again.
Heaven help the male who messes with her when she's not in the mood!

does it hurt when they bite? mine never bit me, but i saw him look like he tried to when i gave him food.

I think it would have hurt more if she hadn't caught me squarely on the toenail! It hurt a little for a short while, but mostly I was surprised that she actually followed through. At some time or another I've had others think about it, then reconsider.
All in all a very funny episode.
Makes you wonder about that story of turtles feeding on a dead cow...do you think if there were enough of them, they could have tipped it?;P

thanks for sharing!

Is there really a report of box turtles eating a dead cow? How many were doing it? That sounds pretty cool.

The way mine bulldoze their water dishes and everything else in their enclosure, I wouldn't doubt a few of them could tip a cow!:}

Can you let it bite you on the fingure? I always was curious if it would hurt

My wood turtles constantly attack my wife's feet when she's in sandals or flipflops. It's pretty hilarious when one grabs her if she's not paying attention.
