I just ran out of flies and have no other culture, i ordered another one but I don't know what to feed my frog until they come. What should I do?

Are there breeders near you that you can bum a culture off?

I also heard that they sell them at petco or petsmart.

You should culture springtails so that you have a backup supply just in case.

Yes Petco sells fruit flies. It's like $5.50 for an 8oz culture.
Do you have just one culture coming in the mail? I would reccommend buying culturing supplies from someplace like Ed's Fly Meat. For about $40 (and that's with shipping) you can get enough stuff to make 20 cultures. I like haveing three or four cultures going at one time. That way you can rotate through them and give the flies time to reproduce. It's really great ideal to raise springtails for a coulpe of reasons. I am big fan of feeding a varied diet. Also I keep a culture of springtails right in my tank. It gives my frogs something to hunt whenever they feel like it, and keeps them active.

Check out the classifieds on this site. Jerry Tresser sells bulk hydei and melanogaster only, no medium. If you buy a couple, you should have enough to hold you off until you get some cultures established (which may take at least a week or two). Also, if you can find somewhere that sells pinheads, that would be great. Always have a few established cultures producing at a time, just in case. They are cheap enough to make so that having too many is never worse than not having enough.

you can order crickets thru the internet. depends when you order & how much you pay on shipping. they can get there the next day. it depends on the frogs, you could get bigger crickets than the pinheads. they don't ship too well. you could go with 7 days or even 10 days. and you can order 500 or 1000 crickets.
