I have to run over to Petco today to pickup a case of 500 mealies. Can a hatchling handle a normal sized mealie (I was planning on picking out the smallest ones for them)??? Or should I feed them small crickets instead???

I feed mealies right from the start. Full size ones.

If I have the time, (and not too many babies!) .. for the first 2 weeks or so I will pick out the white ones, the mealies that have most recently shed their skin.

These are softer and presumably easier to digest.

But I truly believe this makes little to no difference.

How big are these mealworms that you want to feed to them? Because I wouldn't feed a full-grown mealworm to a hatchling ever! The mealworms I get are about the size of a hatchling, and you are only supposed to feed geckos insects half the size of the geckos’ head. If these mealworms are too big for them, the gecko may not be able to crush the mealworm enough to kill it, and the mealworm will literally eat the geckos’ insides while it is in his/her stomach.

Be very careful what you feed your hatchlings, they are very delicate, I would suggest small crickets.
