Females will at times lay infertile eggs even if they haven't even seen a male dragon, much less been with them. So once they reach egg laying age (around 8 months old and older) you will have to watch for signs that she is gravid and needs to lay them, else you risk her becoming egg bound. Typically providing a egg laying box, any tupperware tub that is about 2 feet long and a foot wide with about 6inches of damp soil (various mixtures can be used, just make sure it can clump together sufficiently so tunnels won't collapse ontop of your dragon and it is free of any and all chemicals (ie insecticides, fertilizers etc). Females also need additional calcium when they are producing eggs.
As for which would be a better pet, a male or female, others here have stated that females have a bit more personality and are a bit calmer than males but I love my male dragon dearly and he does show alot of personality. Males do have the advantage of not getting egg bound (for obvious reasons) so it really is a matter of personal choice.
Also keep in mind that babies are difficult to sex properly till they are about 3 to 4 months old.
