What would be the best substrate for a retf. I was thinking of potting soil but i have heard it can be harmful if accidentally ingested. What do u think? thanks

I use and have used potting soil for years find it GREAT. use non chemical non fertilizer, non perilite potting soil just soil nothing added. Garden stores and home depot, etc sell big bags for nothing compared to pet store type of substrate.
Some sell it as virgin soil. Its pure soil even the mix with orchid mix(some sell it mixed) is great as long as nothing added.Though more money.
If digested it passes right through. When you clean out your frogs tank its great for use in the garden. As I write this I am eating some myself lol just kidding but its great safe inexpensive stuff.
