Is this uv bulb okay for beardies? I normally use the zoo med repti-sun 5.0, but this is all the store had. Please give your 2 cents. Thanks in advance.

We haven't seen any up-to date studies that have tested those bulbs. "Theoretically" they would be better than the 5.0 but they don't always test to be what they claim. I am using two of them now. I have noticed that they are a bit more blue than some of the others which makes it not as bright. Now, from some of the discussions earlier, the brighter the better. If you do use them, I would suggest using a bright "white" light along with it. That way you can get UVB and brightness.
Until we can see the results of a good test on the newer bulbs, we just won't know for sure.
Good luck

Thank you for your input. I read somewhere that the higher the UV i.e. (2.0, 5.0, 8.0) the lower the brightness. I too noticed that it's allot bluer that the Zoo Med Repti-Sun 5.0. Thanks again. -Greg
that would make sense since the bulb would be slid more towards the UV spectrum the more UV it produces... UV is not visiable to humans so the bulb would appear dimmer.
I use the 8.0 bulbs and like them. My beardies are very healthy and have nice strong bones.
I've also used the 5.0, but I have a fixture that does not like 5.0 bulbs (they are slightly larger in diameter). So I use the ET 8.0 bulbs.
On the other hand ET's DayGlo and NightGlo heat bulbs are absolute JUNK. They fall appart really easy.
