Breed Identification

Hello all,

I bought my little guy here as a Candy Cane. However, after 7 or 8 sheds, he/she doesn't look like a Candy Cane anymore. Any ideas?

It's not a candy cane but it's a nice amelanistic (red albino) corn.
A candy cane is an amelanistic corn too, but is bred to have red or orange blotches on a white background.

All candy canes are amels, but not all amels are candy canes.

Hope I got that right. hahahaha

Very pretty colors still.

Definitely not a Candy Cane - ideally, the background would be white or very pale.

Unless it's the light, I'm seeing a high yellow Amel with very little white. Does anyone think these sub-adult colours might even out into a Sunglow?

Whatever you want to call it, that is a real nice looking Corn you have there!

No, that would not be considered a sunglow. A sunglow has NO white on it and that snake, although it is not showing a lot of it, definitely has white around the saddles. It is a very nicely colored Amel with nice high yellow but regretfully for your sake did not hold onto the white ground color you said it had. This does happen and is why candy canes are not the easiest to predict as hatchlings. But, on the good side, you have a wonderfully colored amel that is every bit as attractive as a candy cane in my eyes.

I have heard of this happening a few times, The white ends up turning yellow. I think if you look around at comparison pictures you will see the candy cane corn turns yellow sometimes

This fella did have an almost white background in October 04 when I bought him. But the more he/she sheds the more yellow/orange he gets. I was thinking sunglow too, but wanted to get some other opinions first. This is the best little snake, and well worth the 20$ I paid for him (reptile show) no matter what his acual breed. He has never turned down a meal and is moving up to weanlings.
