Drinking?

monocledcobra Apr 10, 2005 09:53 PM

Hi,

My beardie (11 months old) never seems to drink from anything. I've tried dripping water on his nose, leaving a water dish in his cage and everything. Yet still he seems always hydrated (never see a wrinkle in the skin, except when he turns himself around). I do mist his greens heavily, but even so, he doesnt eat all his greens. He eats about 90% of the greens I put in his bowl. The crickets I give him are dusted once a week, and are fed with Fluker Cricket Feed, and Fluker Cricket Quencher (the blue ones). Unless hes getting his water from his greens, I dont see how he isnt showing any signs of dehydration.

have you tried giving your beardie a bath? Mine likes to drink a lot when i put her in the bath. Also you mentioned that you feed your crickets those blue gel thingies. THose are what $4 a bottle? If you go to http://www.watersorb.com/index.htm you can buy a 2lb bag of the cystals for $15.00 shipped. 1 oz makes a gallon of the gel that you can buy in the pet stores, and unless my numbers are incorrect theres 16 oz to a lb, so for $15 you basically get 32 gallons of gel.

I as well put mine guys in the bath tub about twice a month. I put WARM water about 90 degrees in temperature in the tub. I only put enough for the dragon to still be able to walk around without their heads going underwater (just enough to cover their backs). Keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't drownd. Min also like to poop while they're soaking so you may have to change the water. I usually let them soak for like 15-20min. Their skin also soaks in water so that'll hydrate him as well him he doesn't drink.

Good luck

My male doesn't like water at all but my female uses the water dish to finger paint on the tank walls and to sit in when she's shedding. I give my female a bath when ever she wants one but she loves to swim so she wants a bath often. She tends to drink when she's getting a bath or you could say her swim time and I mean that she literally swims lol. I've never seen my male drink but he's never been dehydrated either but he does eat a lot of greens so thats probably where he gets most of his moisture. As long as the greens are wet when you give them to your beardie I don't see why he wouldn't get enough water.
