Please explain a Yellow Belly?

sacredpurr Apr 10, 2005 10:15 PM

Hello, I have a Ball Python with a clear cream belly(no dark markings) I have been looking at the pictures of yellow bellies and my guy looks just like them. So before I assume he is one can some one tell me or show me a real yellow belly. Thank You D

Yellow Belly balls are more than just patternless yellow bellied snakes. They have a "rusty nail" coloration on the sides (some call this blushing ,much like the sides of a Mojave)and the belly has a consistant pattern on the sides where the belly and the sides meet (much like the belly of a marker het Pied, not quite as pronounced as a marker Het Pied but similiar). Older YB's lose alot of the highlights on the sides, the rusty nail coloration turns to a bone color or off white. YB's are easy to pick out once you know what your looking for. I plan on hatching out a nice group of YB's this year. The YB's will be one of the "must have" genes in the combo crosses as we get into all the designer stages of selective breeding.
