WHAT WOULD HAPPEN....

twilightfade212 Apr 10, 2005 10:50 PM

I'm curious, what would happen if I was to put a WC turtle in with my three turtles, perhaps only for the purpose of breeding. Would any diseases from the WC turtle be passed on to mine. Thanks for y'alls time.

it's not so much disease from the wild boxie than disease/deadly bacteria from your captives being passed to the wild ones

Uh, you advised another poster below to only keep captive bred turtles. Does that not apply to you?

That poster was planning on taking turtles out of the wild and keeping them as pets, probably without the intention of returning them back to EXACTLY the spot they found them in. The only way I would come to have a WC turtle would be if I rescused it from my relatives backyard in the middle of the city, were they tell me MANY stories of turtles being run over by cars in the streets and chewed up by their own dogs. If anyone thinks those turtles will be better off where they are, I'll take your advice. I don't believe in taking turtles from the country and bring them home as pets, though. I'm very much against it, and would never sonsider buying a WC turtle. People who do just fuel a huge problem in the wild (such as the Asian turtle crisis, though I know humans eating the turtles are another huge factor next to the pet trade.)

Anyways, thanks to everyone who answered my question. I will not do that. That's what I figured, but i wanted to see what everyone else had to say about it. Thanks again.
