skin problem - irian jaya carpet

shogun Apr 11, 2005 02:43 AM

I'm very worried about my irian jaya carpet python. She has what looks like a burn on her skin, altho there's been no trauma or other issue that I'm aware of. I suspect it's an infection of some sort, but I'm a relatively new snake owner, and know very little.

I noticed it when she shed 3 days ago, altho it didn't look as bad then. She's very lethargic, and is currently lying uncoiled.

I'll be taking her to the vet tomorrow, but am hoping that someone can tell me if this looks familiar.

Thx.

i had a similar problem, looks like a burn. If it was recent, it would be expcted to get worse right after the shed. THe lethargy is something that did not happen to my papuan python, and it did heal, although with white scar tissue. id definately bring it to a vet if you can afford it because of the behavior change and possibility of infection. thats all i can offer

could be a burn, sure looks like it but how did she do it? Figure that out and you will eliminate the problem, you are doing the right thing in going to the vet, it shows that you care for your animal and that is the best thing you can do.
She probably is lying out straight because it is painful, I recieved 2-3rd degree burns on 20% of my body and I can tell you that burns hurt and even a puff of air on them can be cause for a morphine drip (mine was every 8 minutes and it still wasnt enough). Good luck, she will probably be fine, just a few war stories to tell!
