bumps on snake

reuben Apr 11, 2005 03:57 AM

I found a bump on my greybanded kingsnake two weeks ago which looked like a mosquito bite on a human. It didn't look infected to me and a friend-vet who was visiting (but has no specific reptile experience) said just to keep an eye on it. Now there are two more smaller but similar bumps in the same area -- on the body near the tail but not at the vent, same side (right). I've checked for flying insects and mites but found nothing. Any ideas? Will go to a vet soon anyway.
thanks

I can think up a few guesses but nothing more than grasping straws. A picture would help, but with somthing that is obviously spreading, a vet visit is in order and will be more definitive than anything you will find here.

Good luck! Keep us posted on what it turns out to be so the next time someone describes a mosquito bite type soar, we have another differential to consider

First, thanks to Kel on the informative reply to my earlier post.(April 11, cornsnake forum)
Second, progress report:
I took the snake to a vet who took a sample of the fluid within the blisters and checked for bacteria or White blood cells on slides. He also prescribed a 20-day regimen of fairly dilute antibiotics.
The slides showed nothing apart from excess sub-cutaneus fluid. Following Kel's post I asked if he saw fat cells, but he said no, that it resembled a blister. He suspects humidity issues in the enclosure, but still reccommends I continue with the antibiotic treatment.
In conclusion, I know what it isn't but not what it is. Will hope the blisters go away in time, but am fearful regarding the disease Kel mentioned in her post of April 11.
The snake seems fit, otherwise, and is going into shed.
Let's hope for the best.
