Off Topic: Ant infestation!

4everherpn Apr 11, 2005 04:43 AM

I looked up at my snake rack this evening to find ants all over the place. I have moved all snakes and cages out of the room. What should I do now?

a horned lizard or an anteater.
Sorry, couldnt resist. I really have no useful anti-ant info. I have problems at my house in the spring too. Go buy some traps that kill back at the nest, rather than right in the trap.

Since your snakes are out and clear from the cages, i see no potential harm in spraying with somehing like ortho indoor and perimiter ant and bug killer. I wouldn't spray it directly on the cages, just spray it around where the ants are coming in from. then go around the entire exterior perimeter of your home and spray it. this will be a good time to change your substrate - get rid of it all before you spray, give it a few days to outgas, clean out your tanks very well, then put fresh substrate in and let the snakes come back home.

Use Terro brand any killer. The ants will bring it back to the nest and kill the whole colony. You just put a drop of it on a pc of cardboard and let them suck it up. You won't need to use any harsh sprays or anything that way.
