My Leo at last....

Schizmsgrl Apr 11, 2005 07:17 AM

Ok I got my Leo, my friend dropped him off on Saturday, and already I am in search for a new tank.....The one she brought him to me in is a small plastic 5 Gallon. There is just not enough room!! He only has ONE hide and no undertank heat at all, so I am gonna be purchasing UTH real soon. I know he must be cold cause when i pick him up his belly feels like ice! She sent him with a heat rock, but I am not gonna use it...I plugged it in on my counter and let it heat up to see how hot it was, and lemme tell ya, I cant even hold my hand on it for more than 3 seconds!!!! That is HOT!!!!! OUCH!

She brought me cricket dust like I currently have for my Agama, and from all the info I have read, it is to my understanding that Leo's need a dish of Calcium vitamins in their tank....So I guess I need to be buying some of that also!! Phew!

Other than that, he is doing great, what a sweet little man he is!! Well I gotta run, take care!

Congrats on your new leo! Heat rocks are not good for leos because I think they get most of their warmth from their back so when they lay on the heat rock they will lay on it for a really long time until it burns thier tummy =( Stick with a under-tank heater and a heat lamp.

Leos gain there heat from belly heat not back heat. I'd suggest getting a UTH as soon as possible and a thermostat or reostat. Reostats r cheaper but thermostats r alot more precise.Gilbery007
