Possibly 2 females on saturday

jag Jul 10, 2003 11:57 AM

I am going to the reptile expo in san diego on Saturday. I planned on buying 1 female leo about 15 grams or so (have had a hard time with babies that Ihad bought from petco/smart, so takin a break). Anyhow, I packed up her tank so after we get her on saturday she would have her tank waiting for her in the hotel room when we got back. The tank i am taking are the bare essentials (Tank, lid, light, water bowel, food bowel, calcium dish). Well after talking to my boyfriend which is going with me, we might get 2 females instead. I know we need to quaratine them but I only have room for 1 10 gal tank. So what would be best to do if I do get two. (IM not sure if we will get 2 or not). I am scared to put them together in the 10 gal tank cuz what if one is sick? SO worried about getting another sick leo. Anyone have any thoughts how to do this?

My thoughts would be not to get 2 leos at the moment and only get one. Wait for the next show to come around to get another leo.

I will be going to the IRBA show in San Diego as well. I am flying down there tomorrow from northern Cal, can't wait!!

Here's my take on getting 2 new leos (this is just my opinion):

The quaratine period is essential because you don't want to introduce a new gecko to your established colony without knowing how healthy this animal is. However, if you are to put 2 new leos together without having them be in contact with your established group I don't see much of a problem. Of course if one of them is carrying coccidia or parasites or other diseases it will get the other one who might be healthy otherwise sick as well but at least your "established ones" will not be infected.

I cant wait to go either. Where in cali you from? Im in the central valley so its going to be a nice long drive lol. Were leaving at 6am woo hoo lol. I am planning on going to fresno tonight and getting a 10 gal tank splitter to seperate the tank that should work... yea? Put some paper up so they cant see eachother.

How are the prices normally there at an expo? This is my first one.

I also have a storage container thats from rubbermaid its not huge but it not as large as a 10 gal tank a little smaller but taller. Would that work? It would have them sperate so no contact. I dont want my leos to get sick. I can just swap the light back and forth until I get home to there cages that they will have set up already. That should work huh.

I am in the bay area. I wish we are driving instead of flying since I can't actually carry reptiles on board so I will have to have them shipped if I find something I like.

The IRBA show in San Diego is usally a big one so plan on spending 2-3 hours or more there. For animals, I don't think the prices are any cheaper, might be a little less but not a huge difference. What's nice is you can talk to the breeders and ask questions. The prices on supplies are good. I bought a Powersun bulb for $35 at the last IRBA show where they normally go for $42 plus. Did you print out a $1 off coupon from the IRBA [bleep]e?

sure did... did it yesterday. Do you think that rubbermaid container would work?

I went to a show recently and bought 3 geckos. I was worried about the quarentine period, but I bought them from the same breeder and they were in the same container anyway. So, needless to say, They are all in the same container at home.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two
