Lavender x Carlsbad........

Will produce hets for Lavender, and when I breed those back to each other I think I already know what a Lavender striper from the brown & yellow combo will look like.

Those should be really neat along with the Lavender x Mendota. I am looking forward to seeing what you produce.
BTW remember I mentioned the two JR and JD Lavender strains I mentioned that Lloyd Lemke had? Well check out Len Krysko reptiles, he's got them. The JD's look like regular Lavenders and the JR's look similar to the "hypo" Merkers.

Here's a link. Scroll down to "Lavender" Albino California Kings and there are 2 photos.

I appreciate it. I already e-mailed Len.

Too many names/terms and not enough uniformity. LOL

I just got an e-mail back from Len, he no longer has any Lavenders (either strain) as he sold the whole project to somebody else.

So any ideas as to anyone else that has the JR strain of Lavenders?

Thanks

I had not heard of them since Lloyd Lemke days. I am 100% sure he had them on his list at one point. I have some of his old lists, it might take a while but I could probably dig one up and post it.
Len says they have ruby eyes. My Merker's don't really have ruby eyes that I can tell. Some times you can see dark ruby eyes if you put the snake in a dark room and let their eyes dialate and then shine a flashlight on them but I have not tried that.

from Lloyd Lemke. It was either 1997 or 1998. I'll have to find it.

Kerby....
Very nice pairings you got going on over there. I really anticipate seeing some of your babies this year.
What will the offspring look like from this pairing?
What will the offsprings produce when bred together?
Great Calkings Kerby..

When you bred any kind of striped with a banded you will get some aberrancies. You might get a few bandeds, broken bandeds, some striping, some broken striping, and maybe some dot-dashes, etc... Did I miss anything? LOL

They will all be het for the recessive gene. You might get some that are the black & white phase and you should get some that are brown and yellow.

But I think you already knew all that. Looking forward to the pics of the babies!

Yeah, but what will a brown and yellow lavender look like when you breed the babies together? and what will the black and white lavenders look like?
What I am trying to ask is do the lavenders look different if they come from brown and yellow parents than those that come from black and white parents?
One other question that is kinda off topic....
At what age/size will a normal albino turn white?
I have noticed many people advertising lavender albino calkings that just look like young albinos with their juvenile coloration....I have always thought that eye color was the determining factor. A true Amelanistic calking will have pink and red eyes. Do your lavenders have blue and red eyes like my blonde????
Sorry so many questions...I just wanted you to clarify some calking info for me....
Thanks Kerby,

Well, we know that albino cal kings look different based on what they would have looked like if they weren't albino. I have some Lavenders that are darker than others. So I would imagine that a 50-50 black & white would look different than a brown & yellow when they are lavenders. Scott Potts has a pair of Lavender adults that are white with yellow bands and they produce some of the darkest purple babies. You cannot always look in the eyes and tell if they are albino, lavender, etc.. Just look at regular cal kings, dark ones with really dark heads have dark eyes, lighter cals have light color eyes.

**One other question that is kinda off topic....

There isn't a specific time. Most of my cal kings will change within a year. Some will yellow up. Blizzards are pink as babies, but turn to white. Albinos as babies are pink and most turn to white. I still have a pink & white cal king that is almost 2 years old.

**I have noticed many people advertising lavender albino calkings that just look like young albinos with their juvenile coloration....I have always thought that eye color was the determining factor. IMO, baby Lavenders should be darker (purple like) than regular albinos. I can see where adults might be confusing, but babies shouldn't. My Lavenders have red eyes, not quite the same as my albinos, but still red.

Since there is variance in normal cal king eyes, then there should be some variance in cal kings that display recessive genes.

Still a lot to clarify in the coming years through proven breeding projects.

Thanks alot Kerby....
I appreciate your input all the time.
I also anticipate seeing what the next few years prove out in Calking genetics....
Thanks again,
