It was pretty warm here in Ohio on Saturday! I took the opportunity to look for animals.
I went to a lake I know. It is not far from where I live. I like this lake because I have never seen one with such an abundance of life! In two months it will be teaming with hundreds of thousands of frogs.
In my brief stay I caught a huge Bullfrog over 1' in length. I released it later. I caught 2 hatchling painted turtles. I am going to put them in a pond in my back yard that I am going to build. They can't be more than two or three days old. Their shells almost as big as a nickel.
I caught 3 smaller frogs and placed them in Spot's enclosure. One already disappeared. I have a feeling the other two won't last long. I put a bullfrog tadpole in my turtle's tank for a snack.
I didn't see any snakes but it may be too soon for them to be out. My main goal this year is to catch a small snapper and keep it for a year or two for observation and study.
