New Eggs today...

mattcbiker Apr 11, 2005 01:41 PM

My 4 foot Eastern female laid 14 big eggs yesterday! I'm quite excited, my first time breeding kingsnakes. All of the eggs are firm and leathery, and feel to be full of liquid. Some of the eggs have some dimples on them though, and look like they need to expand a bit. Are they too dry, or is this normal? How often should I mist them? Any good techniques to keep the eggs warmer than my 75 room temp? - or is that acceptable?

Thanks in advance for the help!

What is the pairing? Any locale data?

Can you post pics of the eggs?

Hey Peter,

This is a pairing of an Eastern and a Brooksi phase Florida King. I'm going to try to get a hold of David Wheeler who I bought her from 6 years ago in Texas to see if he knows of her locale. Some will hate me for pairing these two but I will represent the babies accordingly and I think they're both rare and a beautiful mix.

I'll get some pics of the eggs tommorow.

Eggs should be kept 78-82 degree's. I like 80-82 personally. The eggs are dimpling because they are too dry. Put some damp sphagnum moss over them but make sure its not dripping wet. You didnt set up an incubator ?

I'm keeping my room between 75-80F, but that is too warm for me, I'm sick of sweating the last two nights. So that's why I'm looking into some good incubation techniques...

I have them on vermiculite and I threw a moist, clean cloth over them to raise up the humidity. They are in a tupperware container with a hole in the top.

Is the damp cloth covering the eggs? If it is you might want to uncover them so they can breath.

Thanks for the advice ... I moved it off to the side so they can breath and it can still keep it nice and humid in there.
