New hide is being moved around, is this a problem?

Tann Apr 11, 2005 02:34 PM

Ok, I thought I add another hide in my Savs cage for added comfort. What I did was use part of a shoe box thats slanted at the end and cut a hole out and stuck it at the other end of his cage facing his other hide. It's a bit higher than his other and bit more longer.

Anyways, I came home today and it's now over his basking spot. So, if he's going to continue to move it around, should I just take it out now before it stresses him out more if it's causing stress in anyway or leave it in there for a few more days to let him "play" with it?

Tann,

I am no expert, but here are my thought on the matter.

Monitors like to squeeze into tight places, a shoebox really can’t offer much security in that respect. I would guess he is pushing it around because it is too light and can be pushed around, not for fun. How about using a ceramic tile, or bark/ wood pieces with a small hollow underneath in the dirt? One on the hot side and one on the cooler side? Make sure it’s a fairly tight fit, he will make it bigger if he wants to.

Goodluck!

Actually, I forgot about the flat cinder blocks I had before I took them out cause the crickets would get behind them and he couldn't get them. Now that he's to big for crickets, I'll stick them back in there. Duh!

Just a thought... You may want to bury something to support the weight of a heavy thing like cinderblock. If he digs alot underneath it might collapse and squash him?

Have fun! -H-

The cinder blocks don't weigh a whole lot. He can push up on them easily. He used to when he was younger and now that he's a 2ft long fat bastard, he should be ok. He just might get stuck in there, lol.
