pink tongued skink claws

Dear all,

My six year old pink tongued skink's claws seem to be getting quite long, has anyone needed to clip their animals claws before and if so do you have any advice that may help me to safely clip my skinks claws. I have not needed to do this before and I am slightly worried that I will adversely affect his climbing ability if I do this - let me know if you have any advice.
