New trick....

Hey everyone,
I was handling my savannah today and the coolest thing happened. At least I think it's a good thing. I was trying to pick her up in the least stressful way. I would put my hand under her belly and chest and lift. Doing this several times seemed to be working. Each time she would let me hold her a little longer. Then I remember a trick my friend showed me with his iguana when it was restless. He would 'massage' it's neck very very lightly until it calmed down. So I tried this with my little one and it worked! She closed her eyes right in my hands. I had to have sat there for 20 minutes just massaging her neck and the entire time she calmly sat there. It was an awesome first experience. Has anyone else seen this? I think it's the next step to taming my young Savannah.

I don't really think it's the monitor liking the massaging, I think since your near it's head and it feels something, it closes it's eye to shield them and remains still hoping you'll put it down and leave.

You are not 'comforting' it, you are merely freaking the animal into subordination...

REPTILES ARE NOT DOGS OR CATS OR HAMSTERS..... they don't LIKE to be touched or pet, or stroked, or picked up..
