how should i heat my tank

thecheezman069 Apr 11, 2005 07:48 PM

i have 2 options to heat my tank

1. use a uth but it gets to about 110 degrees right above it

2. use a light that gets from anywhere from 83-88 degrees or i could buy another light but which wattage

the cool side is always 70 and at night should i keep everything off and let the tank be at about 70

UTH's are preferable because leo's absorb heat (thermoregulation) through their underside. But obviously, the temperature is the most important factor. 100 is much too high!!! 88 is perfect. buy a rheostat (30$) that will help control the temps for you. I use a UTH and a 60 watt infrared and I'm about 90, which is pretty good. Being in the Northeast, having a rheostat is ideal for climate change.

i live in ct its not too far up but it still gets cold here so ill pick up a rheostat n try that but should i use the light and the rheostat during the day and keep my temps around 90 degrees
