Hey all thats my beautiful D'albert posted about 4 posts down or so.. i have a questions about what goes into a good classified ad. i have to get rid of my baby poseidon, and i NEED to make sure he goes to a good home.. Im not trying to sell him here i just need to know how i can determine if he will get a good home.. My land load wont let me keep him cause he's too big and he's my baby and i need to know that he's safe and happy... i feel like im deserting him and i want him to have a good life and a mate but i need to know how to post an ad that will get attention. so i would like to know what goes into a good classified ad..Please help me post a good ad so my Poseidon can have a wonderful home..

IMHO-
A good classified ad has at least a picture.
A phone number. Very important- this also gives you a better feel of your potential customer, as email isn't exactly terribly revealing.

Not a lot of CAPS.

A concise, but detailed history of your ownership of the animal.

A friendly approachable tone.

In all honesty, I would avoid listing the "necessity" of selling the animal, as that could send an erroneous red-flag. (If someone "needs" to get rid of an animal, then I am instantly suspicious and might not find out the legitimate reason why.)

A rough price. I know on some high-end animals "make me an offer" makes sense, but other than that it just seems irritating.

Oh, about the price. Don't underprice him just because you are in a hurry, at least not in the ad. It sends the wrong message.

I don't know. I've never sold anything over the internet...just purchased. I'm sure others disagree with this, but if you adhere vaguely to these points, and price reasonably, you shouldn't have a problem.

Good luck, and I'm sorry to hear that you have to give him up...I rue the day (coming in a year, most likely) when I have to move out from my town, which means probably renting an apartment, instead of a house, and most likely having to downsize my collection. Oh well.

Take care
