Hi,

This question may sound picky, but I am anal when it comes to owning a new species and would rather turn to experience than rely on common sense. I purchased 2 gray banded kings and they are house in rubbermaids, with flexwatt heat and carefresh as a substrate. I understand that cage temps should be in the low 70's with a hot spot 80-90. Right now they are fine in my living room, but they will soon be moved to my basement which is about 65 degrees and the rubbermaids will be on a rack. To compensate for the cool basement I installed thermostat controlled 11" tape to keep the floor in the low 70's and I am going to use 3" tape for the hot spot.

Now my question. When using my temp gun, should the required temps be met on top of the 3/4-1 inch of substrate or only on the bare floor? My thoughts are the floor becuase they like to burrow anyway.

Sorry for the long winded question
Jeff
