embro eye color ?

jimfmcdonald Apr 11, 2005 10:50 PM

one of my poss-het for albino eggs went bed after 3 weeks so I opened it up and the embro was still clear but had black eyes. so does this mean it would have been born normal looking or if it was going to be albino would it have had red eyes at that point as well? thanks.

...eye pigment evaluation in an embryo is quite an iffy undertaking...one has to be very careful when interpreting pigmentation from vascularization...so I'd say you can't make any genetic determinations from your observations...good question however...

I'd say yes it would have been a normal colored snake........

you would think this would be correct.as soon as the eye develops ...either pigments would form or not..and if they form they wouldn't then go away to make the red//clear eyes of an albino...........

.........to prove it one would have to open an egg with a small developing albino in it.......(** if anybody has any go bad open them and see....then let us know).....

I wouldn't think pigment would go away........

I'll let you know.I have corn eggs go bad every year usually..........I'll pay more attention this time I hope..........
