Catfish for breakfast? When in Texas...

antelope Apr 12, 2005 01:41 AM

Saw this "l'il" guy trying his luck at fishing today in Jim Wells co., Texas. I really need to get a real camera as this was too good to believe! I saw some fingerling catfish swimming in a roadside drainage ditch and thought I would get some for my Broad banded water snakes and lo and behold this guy was stretched out over the water trying to nab the catfish that were swimming on the surface. He noticed me edging closer for a pic and tried to scoot down the exposed roots of an uprooted tree and was none too pleased to be photographed. Da*n paparazzi!!

He actually hit the phone a couple of times and then latched on to me! Then he really got ugly and did the "inverted cobra" and musked the hell out of me so I gave him my tacquito and we called it even!!

You wouldn't think catfish would be much fun to swallow, indigo-style. thanks for the pics

They were pretty small and my broad banded waters had no problems. I once saw a diamond back water snake trying to tackle a catfish that I thought was way to big for him. It had it by the fin and kept trying to pull it to shore but the catfish just swam away with rhombifer still attached! Never got to see that outcome either!
