The trouble with toes...and shedding

kestrien Apr 12, 2005 08:59 AM

One of my geckos consistently has trouble getting all the skin off her toes when she sheds. The other girl has no problems whatsoever, and this one ONLY has trouble on her toes.

Humidity is a problem in my cage, as it has a mesh lid. But, since they're both ok otherwise, is that really the problem?

I end up having to pick it off, and have ended up pulling out a toenail before (nothing makes you feel like a worse gecko mommy).

Any suggestions to avoiding this problem?

2 words: Humid Hide.

Get a dish you put leftovers in, cut a whole in it big enough the gecko has no problem getting through and put some warm wet paper towels in there. Put the hide under the heat light thats on all the time. Your girl should go in there and check it out and maybe next time she sheds she'll be in there. It's humid enough it makes it SUPER EASY for the gecko to shed.

Phoenix, my new baby, LOVES his humid hide, he's shed 2 times now, both REAL EASY because he's in it when he's not hunting.
