The Commissioners of the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries passed a resolution on Thursday, April 7, that makes it mandatory to have a permit for any snake over 12 feet and most species of venomous snakes, hereafter refered to as restricted snakes. The thrust of these regulations is keeping these snakes locked up when not attending to them. This will be effective in August 2005. There will be a grandfather provision for venomous snakes because of education requirements. You need to have dated pictures, receipts, etc.if you apply for a permit under this provision. Check the LGCHS web site for a copy of the regulations. Contact Jeff Boundy at the DWF at jboundy@wlf.louisiana.gov or call 225-765-2815 for more information.
