I'm not sure my leo knows he's a gecko

karaslittleyoshi Apr 12, 2005 02:18 PM

After reading hundreds of posts and articles of leos behaviors..I'm starting to realize my leo is what I like to call "special". From the way I understand it leos have a voice box but do not use it very often, however mine uses his all the time for attention. Everytime I walk in the room he jumps up and looks of the glass of his tank and 'yells' at me. It's a noise I never heard before. Everytime he feels like he is not the center of attention he makes this noise. He also does it when I turn out all the lights to go to bed. Also I know that leos love hide boxes, but not mine. He is always out and about waiting on me to pick him up. He loves being out of his tank and loves bitting my toes. He is so darn cute but its just strange. Not complaining...just asking if anyone else has a leo that does this...any thing different at all? Thanks

My male loves attention so much that he'll get up early so that I can take him out of his tank to play with him before I go to bed. He's also strange in the way that if he moves to far from me that he'll look back at me as if he's asking if its okay to go any farther or if he should turn around and come back. He also listens when I tell him to turn his little rear around and come back which shouldn't be normal but he does it. Mine also likes to climb up into my shirt sleeve and play peek a boo. I think we just have a couple of special leos thats all.

That is so cool!!! Wow! I wish mine would do that!!! LOL Sounds like you have a pretty sweet little critter there!

I just got a Leo from a friend at work, (he is also a sweetie)....Her mother wanted her to get rid of him so she finally brought him over to me on Saturday. She has never mentioned that he's made any noises in the past, and I am just wondering on what occassions do they normally make noise?!? Happen to know? LOL

One of mine "chirps" whenever he's trying to convey something.

He chirps when he wants out of his tank, if picked up from the feeding tank, when he wants to go back into his tank, when he DOESNT want to go back into his tank...

..and um, when I tried to put his "lizard leash/harness" on him yesterday...he didn't appreciate that too much!!

The lil' ones let off a high pitched SQUEAL when they feel threatened/are misted/etc -- sounds like a whistling tea pot coming to boil!

ummm.... They make harnesses for geckos??? My leo croaks like the toads I used to have. The only time she does it though is when someone is holding her. I'd like to think that my gecko has some kind of thought process going on in her little brain, but the more I watch her, the dumber she seems to be. I really don't think these cute little creatures think about too much besides eating, sleeping and pooping. My gecko has this thing about running towards my cat when she is out of her cage. I've had hamsters smarter than that. But, she's still adorable.

Hehehe...um yeah, Pico has a lil' harness with a lead attached. He likes to wander around the living room and is very smart about NOT jumping off heights but this way I can keep him away from the cat and prevent him from going under the couch.

I just moved back to the Bay Area after 6 years in Los Angeles so I'm temporarily living with my parents and they're not too sure about my reptile family. My mom freaks out (quietly) if they come sauntering on over to her when she's sitting on the floor watching TV and I don't want any freak accidents!

I'm gonna try the harness on my youngin's when they get bigger/calmer...lets them think they're "free" and is good exercise!
