Regurgitating Hog update

dragonbirds Apr 12, 2005 09:02 PM

I have the female that is small for her age and is a picky eater that regurgitates more often that not.

Well I did a fecal at work and it came back neg.
Any other suggestions on what could be going on? The other 2 hogs are in the exact same kind of set-up and they are doing just fine.

On another note, when I defrost my pinkies. they have little white spots on them. Is that freezer burn or something else?
I would think that would have anything to do with her problem since the others are doing fine eating them? I have always bought my feeders from the same company.

Any opinions would be great!

Thanks,
Shannon

have you tried live pinkie mice? i have that problem with one hog if i feed it frozen it regurgitate but when i give it live no trouble at all, maybe that fix your problem, and try much smaller food than normal.
best of luck

Hi, i have had that problem before. I found that when i heated the pinky the core was actually a little cold but the outside was warm. So my hog would regurgitate. Not that i know what the problem is, but try to heat the pinky and make sure it is warmed all the way through.

Also, i have found that my hogs will sometimes regurgitate if the prey is wet. This is mostly for adult mice though, not pinks.

From my experience, i have seen hogs that will regurgitate because they do not have the propper heat available to them. So they regurgitate instead of letting the mice rot in their bellies.

Hope this helps.

When a snake vomits, it vomits beneficial bacteria that is vital and helps it digest its meal. Hence, everytime it vomits, the condition gets only worse. You have to extend your feeding from a week to two or three weeks and offer very small food items so it holds them down and builds up another store of beneficial bacteria. More food does not mean more beneficial bacteria. More food will mean vomit and you will be back to square one. You can try administering probiotics (PB-8) via a syringe to help or simply just keep the food item very small. And you have to keep the food item small for about 3 months or else you risk this happening again and always be cautious that this particular snake vomits and never give a decent sized meal again for a year. If its a baby, then resort to pink head or day old pinks. Good Luck.

I've had good results by adding GSE (grapefruit seed extract) to a regurging hogs drinking water, at a rate of 10 drops per gallon of water.
