Hi there! Babies are very diffuclt to sex, even probing, though only very very experienced should probe babies!!! If a male and the probe hits their hemipenis just right, their tails will drop.
Now, for sexing: in older tegus, males will have prominently larger jowls. Males will have 2 spurs (wart-like bumps) underneath the base of their tails, approx 1/2" from their vents. Their will be one on each side (left and right sides).
Females do not have these.........
Another avenue in sub-adults and some juvies is to watch when they defacate..........males' hemipenis (2) will protrude and will appear like purplish thick worm-like elements. Of course females do not have these. :0)
