Red Bull images (adult)

KJUN Apr 13, 2005 10:04 AM

Here are 2 images of some red bulls. The adult is the father to the yearlings pictured. The mother is JUST as red, but not as "dark" of a red in coloration.

The redder yearling is more red than I believe both of the parents were at that age, so she is turning out to be REAL promising. (Fingers crossed!) The high blotch count one was kept because it looked so neat. The red is starting to come out on her, too. I still expect her to turn out to be a nice red, too. Even is she only looks half as good as the parents, she should still be a VERY nice red bull that kicks butt as "eye candy!"

These are cuyrrently under the tender loving care of Don Soderberg. It saddens me that I can no longer enjoy seeing them in person every day!

Thanks. I'm VERY happy with those and can't wait to see how the CB04's turn out!

Been busy. Not much going on herp-wise other than a LITTLE field herping. I've been working a lot more on my new place and the "orchard" the Evil One decided I had to plant for her....lol. We are 90% finished with her 24'x24' outdoor box turtle and rabbit pen, though.

Man, we do spoil those women too much, don't we???

..and if JWC is reading this, he can just KEEP his big mouth shut. I KNOW she is too good for me and I have BETTER keep spoling her!

HI Tony
Thats a pretty sharp snake you have there , I quess I could of worded that better or different .

I have both lines and I'm just speaking from my individuals that I have. I didn't mean to sound like I was bagging on the Crumbly bloodline. I like both bloodline but my Kingsvilles are smaller and brighter but I'm sure there is exceptions in manys cases.

Its funny I got both bloodlines at the same time a year a half ago , The Crumbly line started out bigger and brighter . The Crumbly line is still much bigger but ther Kingsvilles gotten redder .

I Hope you didn't take my oppinion in a bad way ,it just my opinion and obviously not others .

Take care

jason

I didn't I was just funning! I think both lines look great but every time I try to come up with a way to distinguish them I see an example that refutes it. For instance, my Crumbly line bull as actually quite small!

I used to think that the kinsville line look more hypoish and the other line as having more contrast but that has been blown out of the water too. There are some kingsvilles out there with almost shocking contrast.

Personally I think of each line as complimenting the other not as competing lines.

KJUN Apr 20, 2005 06:21 AM

The local (or locals) of the founding stock for the Crumby line is NOT known. I strongly suspect they are or at least HACE a lot of south Texas stock in them. If this is the case, there would be VERY little real differences between the two lines. I justr think of one as a locality red bull and one as a non-local red bull with greater selective potential due to outcrossing, etc. possibilities.

As others have stated. WOW! That high blocthed animal would be a know out when it picks up it's red. That pattern would also looks very nice on some of the other morphs around. Keep 'em coming KJ. Thanks.

Wow, outstanding ones. It seems like high blotch count is more common in the red phases(Kingsville anyway). That yearling should be incredible when it's grown. Hell, it already is!!!

Thanks. The high blotch count (but still in the listed range for normal bullsnakes) does seem to be common in BOTH the Kingsville and Crumby line of red bulls. I suspoect the Crumby line is mostly south Texas stock, but they are non-locale. The ones I showed in the picture were Crumby line.

Seems that high blocth counts are found in most localities (in lesser or greater proportions), but with the few number of founder red bulls, we are suffering from a "founder effect" type of deal. Not all bad in my opinion....

Yes, I think the high blotch count is a nice distinctive feature, and it's interesting how you can get some from the same clutch that have it and some that don't.

Hello KJ,
I hope your spring is going well so far. Those red bulls are amazing, and i'm sure they are doing great since Don is taking care of them. I was just getting ready to talk to him about a few corns, if i remember i'll ask how the bulls are doing.

Have a good weekend, and thanks for posting the great pics.
