Bali Retics

Mark_and_Aimee May 16, 2003 05:29 PM

Hey all... I'm looking into a Bali Retic purchase, but the information I have found on the 'net about this locale has varied greatly.

Most sources say the Bali locale is a "dwarf" species, attaining a maximum length of approx. 10 ft for females. BUT - other sources say it really isn't a dwarf, and will easily reach a length of 16-18 ft.

The best reasoning I have seen so far is Bali's reach sexual maturity at a younger age/smaller size than other retics, but will still grow to immense proportions.

I'm primarily looking at finding a retic that will stay small, without spending $600. Bali's seem to fit my price range, but I don't want to end up with another giant, since I already have a pair of non-dwarf Retics.

Anyone have experience with these Retics? I'm mostly looking to hear from people who have more than just a year or two of hands-on experience with them....

Balis are thought to be only slightly smaller than your average mainland retic, it is generally accepted that bali retics are not dwarf retics.

Balis should fall into your price range, but be careful what you buy because i've dealt with a handfull of bali retics that were very ill tempered. Just ask questions about the snakes to your breeder/dealer.

I had a bad experience with a very evil and territorial Bali as have many that I talked to. Without paying the going price for a true dwarf from a reputable breeder, you may end up with a large snake that is defensive by nature-Bill

The main reason I am looking for info on Bali's is because I have found a 2 yr old, unsexed, 6 ft, and tame - available locally.

I'm not looking for people who have them for sale, and I'm not terribly concerned with the typical temperament problems.

I don't know much about Balis, but a more true dwarf would be, like a Jampea. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but I believe they get about 8-12ft, with females being the larger ones. Jampeas also have great temperments. I would only get one from a reputable breeder, who has been dealing with them for a long time, like Shaun DeBord. He's got true captive born and bred baby Jampeas for $500, if I recall correctly. His website is http://www.serpentine-dreams.com . Just a though and a suggestion.
