Help needed on Tribolonotus gracilis!! Skin problems???

tribo Apr 13, 2005 02:59 PM

My 2 skinks are doing very well, in the beginning one female died and leaving me with a pair. The male is pretty old and heavy 50 grams the female is much younger and her weight is 25 grams, she grew 6 gram in 3 months?!
Both are shedding and eating very good. Only since a few days both animals are getting a white color on their backs and when they are soaked in the water it looks like they have some kind of sores (blisters) My terrarium is pretty wet 85% or higher!
Can these blisters come from being to wet, I only spray every couple of days now.

I have picture of the animals but I cant upload them in this forum so if you want to see them let me know!!

Any help is wanted

Thanks
GP

The only thing that I can think of is that they developed bisters due to the moisture. If some lizards / snakes never get a chance to dry out, they can develop bacterial infections which give them blisters. Try giving them some places in the cage they can go to dry out occaisionally.

I agree with Aliceinwl. They should definitely have a place where they can dry out. Mine spends a lot of time on the tree branch over her 'pool'.
My trib's vivarium is almost never above 85%. The average is about 75% most of the time. I only spray once a day (ofcourse I live in Florida so my environment is pretty humid anyway ) and I usually concentrate the spray on the corner that her hide is in.
I'd say let the humidity decrease to between 75% and 85% and see how they do.
Keep us posted.
