I wanna know the sex of my snake

nollie86 Apr 13, 2005 03:12 PM

I was just wondering if i could get some info on the details of getting your snake sexed. How much would it cost and if you can take it to any vet or are there special ones.

If you have a local herpetological Society ask someone from there to sex it for you. You can take it to a local pet store. A vet who specializes in reptiles could probably sex it. I dont know about the cost though a vet might cost you some but the soc. or pet store might sex it for free.

I wouldn't let someone at the pet store touch my snake with a 10 foot long sexing probe! (actually i wouldnt let anyone touch my snake with one quite THAT long, but you get the point im trying to make. lol.) Vets will probably charge you an office visit, but make sure you take it to a reptile vet. you could also take it to a reptile show. Those types of people generally know how to properly sex snakes. Lots cheaper, also.

a vet usually charges around $20 but if you know a breeder or herp club they will probably be happy to sex it for you or bring it to an expo that allows you to bring in reptiles and find a breeder there.
