Hemipene Protrusion in young males? Doesn't look like Prolapse...

cherribomb Apr 13, 2005 05:03 PM

I picked up one of my young juvies, "Louie", last night and with no trauma that I'd seen, he had something pink/internal poking out of his vent a bit. I was cage cleaning and had my slightly older juvie from a different tank in my hand.

I was going to take him to the vet, thinking it was a mild/mini prolapse, but its back "in" his morning. Louie's actually too young to sex but displays very male characteristics already (plus he's HUGE) could this be one of his "thingies" if he IS male? Or is this some internal organ that should never be outside the vent? It was too small to be intestine, etc.

Could Louie have gotten "turned on" by my other leo? I've read accounts of young males occasionally doing this but has anyone actually had experience with it?

I've had this happen with my older male leo. My female is in another cage quite a distance out of eye view from him but he had his goodies hanging out for a while. Freaked me out because I thought he had a prolapse but he put everything back in it's place after a while.

I'm seen my males penis stick out when he was cleaning himself before but thats the only time I've ever seen it out. I wasn't to worried about it since dogs do the same thing and I know that my male is definatly male. True they aren't dogs but given the fact that he is a male I knew it was bound to come out sooner or later lol. Thats just natures way of telling you that Louie is definatly a male.
