**PICS** and a question for people who own tangs......

Josh06 Jul 10, 2003 01:58 PM

Hey, well I got bored so I took a few of the leos outside for some pics. The first three are of my bell albino, she was to photogenic, so I took a lot of pics...lol. Here they are...

She decided to take a nap.

As you can see, she was squinting her eyes, I had to take her in after about 2 minutes, because the sun was bothering her, even though we were in the shade...

I really liked this pic.

This next pic is of my abberant female, who has so far laid 6 clutches this season...

I have a question on this next guy, he used to be a very bright tangerine with about 3 spots. Since then he has gained more spots, and his tang color isnt as intense, though it is still there. I could seem to get a good enough pic of him, but I included a before and after pic. Does anyone have any ideas as to why he would lose color, but gain spots?? Oh, and his temps are fine and he is housed in a 20 long by himself...

After

Thanks for looking,

Where did you get your beautiful Bell albino and how much did she cost??? I have been wanting an albino or two for a while now but can't seem to find any places that have Bell albinos.

As for the tang, I can't really help you out there. He probably just gained the spotting as he matured, kindof like how baby leos lose the stripes and gain the spotting as they age.

Thanks. I got the bell albino in on a trade with Petesgeckos. I dont think he has any more right now though. You should check with Kelli Hammack, she had some on her site, but I dont know if they are still available.

Yea, i have noticed him getting dark at night as well. He still colors up, but it just isnt as intense as it used to be.

Bruce, He is almost full grown when I bought him, so I figured he was pretty much set for what he was gonna look like. He was about 40 grams, when I bought him and is about 70 now. But int he pic he was around 55. Thanks for the help, I will keep it in mind next time I buy a tang.

As far as color and spots go, geckos change quite a few times until maturity. I have hatched out deep orange babies only to have them lose color as they get older. I have also hatched not so colorful babies and all of a sudden they start to really tang up. The incubation process also plays a role in very colorful babies. (i.e. Tremper's method or just regular incubation) I have tried both and have decided that the old fashioned way works best for me. The color seems to sustain itself better.

The only way to ensure color is to buy a mature gecko and then you should be within a shade or two. That is why the truly bright orange adult or near adult geckos are more expensive then a bright baby, but you know then what you are getting. I have seen people advertise super hypo and carrot tail on very young geckos and there is really no way to guarantee this. It really is a crap shoot then.
Hope this helps,
Bruce
