Was looking at one of my female greens the other day while she was in the middle of a shed cycle and it reminded me of how they acquired their species name. I have always been interested in why some snakes were given their Latin or Greek names. Apparently early explorers to the region had seen a few greens while opaque and it reminded them of a certain color. The species name murinus was given to them, which is a loose translation of Latin for the gray color of a mouse. Another theory is that it was in reference to the gray color of the interior of their mouth, but I think it was more likely in reference to their body color while opaque, especially when you see them like this.
