Do You Guys Actually See Copulation? First time breeder looking for "what to look for"

LeosAnonymous Apr 13, 2005 07:46 PM

Hey Guys,

I just pulled my hogs out of the fridge like 2 days ago and put them together about an hour ago. Both of them are acting a bit spastic, the male moves very "herky jerky" when he has his head on near her, she sort of does the same. But they are not hooking up as of yet.

Just want to ask what you guys see behavior wise when your hogs are breeding successfully. I plan to keep my pair together for a couple days, then alone for a couple days, then back together, etc until I see eggs. Of course they will be alone for breeding.

Any help on what to look for or little tricks of the trade would be greatly appreciated.

The male is an albino and the female is a nearly 3 ft. long het, so I'd really love for to get a clutch out of them.

Thanks for any help in advance!

My husband actually caught my male with one of my females while I was at work and took a pic.

She layed 3 unfertile eggs and 1 fertile that never hatched.

Hopefully we will have better luck the next go round.

Those hogs are both too small to breed. It looks like the female is the red, correct?? If a nasicus lays a clutch of 4 eggs, that just tells you she was way too small. Laying eggs at a young age can stunt females' growth, so be careful.

Also, are you keeping them on gravel?
