QUESTION bout my boa

casey31179 Apr 13, 2005 08:26 PM

My boa is about 6 feet and is very thick. My question is in the last 6 weeks he has shed 3 times. He is on an every other weeks schedule. Has anyone ever had them do this at this size. most of my snakes shed about once every 2 months. I am curious why he would do this. This is the same boa that's had the RI infection. And this has been since he got better so I am wondering if it has anything to do with his sickness.
Thanks

Probably just his body getting back on schedule after recovering; write on a calander each shed and ensure that it returns to a normal frequency. Consider a vet checkup if it doesn't, but I wouldn't worry.

Thanks that's what I was thinking. I bought him sick so I don't know what his previous schedule was But He didn't shed at all the first 5 weeks I had him but then when he was better he started this shedding cycle.

The only time i have had a boa that size shed so often was after recovering from a skin problem that was treated with antibiotic... She shed every other week for about 7-8 weeks and then she started slowing down to every 5-6 weeks which is where she stayed...I would watch and record the shed cycles and then just make sure they start to slow down... hopefully its just trying to recover from the treatment and illness....

Good luck and keep us updated...

He was treated with Antibiotics while sick he also developed a wound on his side during treatment that we are guessing is a fungus that began from increasing the humidity for him. I have been treating it with an athlete's foot cream. Maybe that's what created the rapid shedding.
