You have some beautiful uroplatus! It's always great to see pictures of everybody's pets. I have to get some pictures of mine on here. Thanks for sharing!

you can tell by the eyes? instead of stressing them to look inside there mouth
how?

well, of course you cant be sure of anything till sexual maturity. i've seen some females with very reduced, but evident notches in the tail, and of course many females have the very tiny notches at the very base of the tail. males can have either smooth tails or notched tails. so if i see a lot of notches, i designate it as a "male", which does no harm because im not selling off any of my offspring, so ill eventually find out the truth sooner or later. i designate smooth tails as "hopefully females," then let time do its thing.

the sameiti comment, not the phants.

"looking at the eyes of those sikorae, it makes me think sameiti, am i right?"

I too am interested in the eye differences between the suspecies. Maybe you could elaborate. Thanks.

got this messed up with my topic right below about the babies.

anyway, with the eyes, i dont think it's anything official, but ive taken notice that pretty much all of the sikorae sameiti that i see have very strong yellowish green coloration to their eyes. in sikorae sikorae, you can notice a tiny hint of yellow/green around the periphery of the eye, nowhere near as intense as in sameiti. but thenagain, there might be sameiti out there with the normal colored eyes, but i would be willing to bet if you had a sikorae with those bright eyes, it's the sameiti subspecies.

of course the best known way to look for the difference is checking the buccal cavity by getting your gecko to gape one way or another. and just as a reminder:

buccal cavity pink = u. s. sameiti
buccal cavity black = u. s. sikorae

and be sure to check the back out the mouth, not just up at the front because its not like the entire mouth is black in u. s. sikorae. at least with mine it isnt.

Thanks Mike...I knew that Leah's were sameiti, but that's cuz she told me they were. I will definately keep an eye on pictures of both subspecies from now on to see if I can pick up on your observations of their eye colour.

Oh, and congratualtions on those phantasticus! They look really healthy in your pictures.

Your male sameiti looks killer. Great contrast and striping. My breeder female looks much like your female as well. I wish you the best breeding them.

thanks for sharing the pics.
