Can anyone recommend a good book or other source of info on spider torts? I will be aquiring an adult pair soon and would like to be fully prepared, and let's face it, vet school doesn't teach me things like you guys and some good books do. thanks in advance

I've never seen a book that covers spider torts very well, if at all. Even the web is pretty sparse. I think your best bet is just asking questions on forums like this.

Two web sites that might help are:
http://www.chelonia.org/Articles/pyxisplanicaudacare.htm
http://www.tortoisetrust.org/care/pyxis.html

You should first join the Pyxis Yahoo Group and read the old messages, and check the uploaded files for some good (and accurate) information. Also go download the European studbooks for Pyxis arachnoides ssp. at http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~loehr/pyxis/ The Tortoise Trust and WCT sites also have some good basic information. You should also considering registering your animals with the AZA studbook that is administered by staff at the Bronx Zoo. We all have a responsibility to reproduce this species if we are going to keep them. They are relatively easy to keep and breed as long as you meet their rather strange requirements.
