Micrurus fulvius tenere

chumly Apr 14, 2005 08:57 AM

Hey all,
I have been browsing for informaion on micrurus fulvius tenere in captivity...specifically its diet and husbandry. I have been entertaining the idea of getting one, but cant seem to find any answers to these simple questions. Does it learn to take other prey items in captivity that arent in its wild diet?...enclosure requirements?...can it be kept successfully? Any information or sites you could provide would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Chumly

I have never kept tenere, but have kept many of its eastern cousin, M.f.fulvius. I have had a fair degree of success feeding them the appropriate lizards & snakes. mnay of my snakes were long term..several years. My feelings are that if a snake is designed to feed on reptiles, changing its diet to mammals can do no good, & might cause harm. I have heard of some who have done so, getting them to eat pinks & fuzzies.
