Tadpole evolving problem

pygmyleaf Apr 14, 2005 11:44 AM

I bought some tadpoles for my freshwater aquarium from petco, even though they said they were for cold water I just couldn't resist them so i bought 2 for my warm water tank. They have been thriving quite well in warm water, and one is inbetween frog and tadpole stage now, it basicly looks like a frog but it still has a long tail, and it has a frog mouth now. Well today its been at the top of the aquarium all day with its head out of the water. Ive never raised tadpoles, or frogs besides pacman so I don't really know what to do. About when should I take it out, and should I design a kind of terrarium that allows it to swim and come to land when its ready? and will it be ok if it no longer is in 78-80 degrees F water? and during its evolution it seems to have stopped eating, is this normal? Should I keep the frog or just let it go in the stream in the neighborhood? Thanks for the help.

If your tadpole has legs and a frog mouth, then its time to let it ouf of water. Like NOW. Once these guys have legs, its time for them to walk, or hop as the case may be. As to tempreture, if they were doing well in warmth, I suggest keeping them relitively warm...at elawst room tempreture. DO NOT relase your frogs into a pond, espceailly fi youd ont know what kind of frog it is. If you post some pictures on this board Im sure that the people here can identify it for you. If yous till feel the need to relase it, reserch your loacal species. If this frog is native to where you lvie, then its not a problem. However, if it is not, then please dont, as you would only be endangering the envornment and all the wild frogs in yuor town.

hope this helped,
