YOU GUESSED IT MORE BREEDING QUESTIONS!!

yellowconda12 Apr 14, 2005 05:31 PM

I am attepting breeding for the first time this season, I have a superfat girl who I am breeding for her first time, I am wondering if she is already carrying unfertile eggs do i have to wait until next time, or if I mate her before she lays "unfertile eggs" will they be fertile, or does it have to happen before eggs begin development. Also I am wondering about seperating babies, I see all the pictures of these huge containers of babies in the classifieds do people actually keep them that way, I have heard about seperating by size, but if anyone wanted to place pic of how they keep their baby area set up enclosures and stuff, if not description would be great, thanks

This is how I keep my hatchlings..... I keep no more than two to a tub...... As for your other question, the female will let the male mount her if she is ready (ovulating)..... If she has developed infertile eggs in her now I would not put the male in just yet.... Maybe wait for her to drop what she has.... As soon as she drops, then I would put the male in..... Do you know for sure she has eggs in her now??? Anyway here is the pic of my hatchling setup....

All you need to do is introduce the male once and you will get a few fertile clutches from the female..... The fertilization period happens before the egg "develops" a shell I believe....

I don't know how much my female weighs, I am sure it is way over 50 grams, but the male I have is about 2 inches smaller than she and only weighs about 44 grams. Will she still mate with a smaller male, or will she laugh at him?

The male should have no problem mating the larger female.... It might take him a few tries to get in the right spot, but other than that, everything should work perfectly....
