Diurnal, schmiurnal. Just get a pair. You won't regret it. Just make sure you have room for all the other Pits you'll be collecting. They're very addicting. Once you go Pit, all the others are sh...

I think they all are in captivity, that's not to say they don't come out at night when they feel like it.

Are there any of the pits you would highly recommend or not recommend? The only reason i asked about diurnal activity is because nocturnal snakes bore the life out of me. My first snake was a corn, and if i wasnt strongly interested in herps or did alot of reading...that would have been the end of it. Thanks for the replies.

Shannon Brown, John Ginter, Jason at ENVY reptiles, Gregg and the reptile basement and the list goes on... many of the top breeders of pits can be found right here on these forums. Once you figure out what you want take alook around and talk to the breeders who are offering what you want. Any of the names above are great people *even if some are from the south* lol!!!

Charles,

P.S: I am sure I left off some names and I am sorry for that...but hey I am a yankee so what ya expect? *lol*

Thanks for the great comments Charles, greatly appreciated. As far as picking out which pit to buy first, they are all great...and you can always buy more, lol. Good luck with your choosing.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Well, that pretty much what snakes do, they just sit there. They dont move around much unless they are hungry or uncomfortable for one reason or another, a happy snake is a still snake. If you want an active snake get yourself a coachwhip or racer.

tbone Jul 11, 2003 09:16 AM

But I would like to breed Pits so activity may not be a big deal...And if I could find good cb coachwhips or racers i'd go for it. Of course wc isnt that bad but cb would be much better, blah blah blah.

On another note, I still cant decide which pit to get.Are there some that are better than the rest?

Thanks

I have a san diego gopher snake and I love it to death. I has no trouble what so ever with eating, in fact it has never refused a meal. It is docile and gives perfect warning signs when agitated so that you know when to leave it alone. It tends to get very active during the last 2-3 hours of sunlight and will "rip apart" its cage just because it feels like it. I would recommend a sd gopher snake but all pits seem to have thier good atributes and they all act basically in the same manner as my gopher snake. Good luck making a difficult choice.

Good luck with your snake(s) -Evan(gopherlover)
