My vet used a rubber kitchen spatula to gently pry open my dragon's mouth. I also use a disposable plastic knfe and gently put it between the skin of Drago's mouth and she then opens it. When you get it open you can put something across the back of the mouth to keep it from closing until you're finished. I've used bamboo skewers and popcycle sticks.

My 3 CWD-Avanyu, Tripod and Drago
We use a Qtip.
Place the stick part of the qtip against the lips and roll it backward while appliying VERY LIGHT pressure. The dragon will open its mouth.
I found that I could get mine to open their mouths by gently squeezing the sides of their jaws. I didn't like the prying methods, I was afraid of injuring their mouths.
