Cleaning cages

DanW Apr 15, 2005 03:41 AM

How does everyone clean there cages? I take my cages outside and clean the whole thing thoroughly every other week. Is that necessary or is there a way I can clean them without moving them? I use all Neodeshas and Sterilite boxes but plan on adding some boaphiles soon.

Thanks,
Dan

It really depends on the snake, some of mine make messes then I will clean that cage more than one of my boas that nerver makes a mess. I spot clean every day then once or twice a month I empty the cage and spray it with mouthwash and wipe it up and if there is any crap stuck to the floor I use a razor blade and scrape it off. But if you use newspaper for bedding then you may have to clean the cage more often.

i have been doing this for about 10 years and i have never had to scrub any of my cages... i have to use a wet sponge at the most... i fold my newspaper in half so their are 2 layers to hold the waste...
and i have never had to use a razor blade, i check all my cages daily and if their is any waste or water or anything i change the paper...

I'm glad you learned to clean cages in the last ten years. My post was not directed at you and I never said I "had" to use a razor or you had to use one, I just find it to be very quick and easy if any crap is dried or stuck on the cage instead of wetting it and it is what I DO not what you should do. I'm really sorry if my last post questions your cleaning habbits as I did not intend on doing. Later

I use liners from DCL. They work so awesome. I put 2 sheets in my 54” Visions and when my boas do their business, I just switch out the liners. There is no dye from the newspaper and one sheet is like 10 newspapers! I also clean my enclosures with Virosan every 3 to 4 weeks. Virosan is also great for cleaning any furniture in the enclosures and 1 gallon will last you for a real long time.
