A few pics

I'd love to here comments, so feel free to post whatever. Thanks for looking. The last composite image (sorry for the crappy quality, image editing isnt my thing) is of Jack, a potential keeper. He is the gecko on the bottom in the first two pics. The other gecko is jack's clutchmate. These are also day colors, the get a bit more fired up in the evenings.

jack really looks awesome, seems like he has some really nice exaggerated crests for such a young fellow. judging by the size of that cloacal spur, i would say he'll turn out male too. thenagain, i have no way to be certain about that, but id agree with you that hes a keeper!

just wondering.... are you talking about the enlarged scale found near the vent on both male and female crested geckos? i am to this point under the impression that it has nothing to do with the sex of the animal.

Just want to hear some peoples thoughts on this. if its true, its new to me. thanks.

yea, that's what im talking about. i think i heard it mentioned around here once before, and i started taking closer notice of the cloacal spurs on a lot of the geckos that i have and get to see. from the geckos i have, it does seem to be true that females TEND to have smaller cloacal spurs, and males tend to have larger ones. but this is no way a guarantee to sexing cresteds.

first off i do not want this to turn into a slugfest like many fo the threads have a tendancy in here. i want to make the statement that i am trying to converse in a casual and scientific manny, and by no means am i attempting to put you down.

that being said....

after reading your post, i went to observe my cresteds up close. I am unable to observe a distinct difference in the size of cloakle spurs from my adult male and my group of adult females, all of which are unrelated to eachother.

I am by no means an expert on the physiology of crested geckos.
my disagreements with your statements is solely based on 2 things, 1st is that I have not heard, other than your statements, anything regarding cloakal (sp?) sprs and sexing, and secondly, as I have said my observations with my own animals.

I would love to hear from some of the other breeders, and if anyone has the background, some of the experts that we have to fortune of being in contact with through this forum.

For all i know, you could be 100% correct. this is just a fascinating, and potentially helpful area of Ciliatus physiology; one that i would like to hear from more people on.

BTW ty for your response umop

Actually, I have heard this several times, although my powers of observation do not seem to be able to discern a noticeable difference in size.

However, was this not mentioned in Rapashy's book? Again, as a *possible* indication of *possible* sex of a juvy?
